Stray cat reunited with her kittens at foster home

Wrenn Rescues is  afoster home of pets psecliaizng on homeless cats and dogs in California and Alissa Smith is the co-owner of Wrenn Rescues.

The shelter received a call about 10-day old four kittens in need of help in someone’s backyard.

When the rescuers arrived they were told that the mother cat escaped when she saw men approaching  her, and later her kittens were found nearby, left unattended.

The team has assessed the health conditions of the kittens and took them to the shelter.

“The kittens were very obviously well taken care of by their cat mama. When orphaned kittens land into the shelter, they don’t usually see their mama again,” said Alissa. “Another important reason to leave kittens where they are found (and wait for the mom), instead of taking them to the shelter.”

The staff was about to hand-rear the kittens, but the plan crushed when the mother cat appeared in the foster home. The same people who  found the kittens, now caught the momma cat in the same area – she came back for her babies. They were able to catch her and bring her to Wrenn Rescues.

Mother cat showed her caharacter though – she was refusing to come out of her carrier box, but Ashley managed to persuade her in a gentle way.

“I held a baby up to her and she visibly calmed down. We coaxed her out of the carrier with it,” Ashley said. “She went right over and curled up in the middle of her kittens, purring. They all went right to her, and started nursing.

“I don’t think we have ever seen something so heartwarming,” Alissa said. “So unbelievable that this miracle occurred. To say that the reunion went well is an understatement.”

“Nothing we can do compares to the blissful feeling of having a mama lying next to them,” added Ashley
